  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  1. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, orange juice, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 15 minutes.
  4. Add the orange zest and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reaches the hard ball stage (about 250°F).
  5. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract.
