Classic Bolognese Sauce

A delicious twist on the classic Bolognese sauce using turkey bacon for a lighter option while maintaining robust flavors.

  • 4 slices turkey bacon
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the turkey bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and chop.
  2. Add olive oil, onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the skillet. Sauté until vegetables are softened.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, and red wine. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  5. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in chopped turkey bacon before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, omit bacon and use lentils instead of beef.
  • Serve over your choice of pasta or use in lasagna.
