- 4 slices turkey bacon
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, diced
- 1 celery stalk, diced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 cup red wine
- Salt and pepper to taste
- In a large skillet, cook the turkey bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and chop.
- Add olive oil, onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the skillet. Sauté until vegetables are softened.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, and red wine. Simmer for 30 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper. Stir in chopped turkey bacon before serving.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, omit bacon and use lentils instead of beef.
