  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup baking soda
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup additional granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and 1 tablespoon sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add 4 cups flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Cover the dough and let rise in a warm area for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
  6. Divide the dough into 8 pieces, roll each piece into a long rope, and shape into a pretzel.
  7. Boil each pretzel in the baking soda water for 30 seconds.
  8. Place the pretzels on a baking sheet, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
