Authentic Russian Pelmeni Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the egg and water. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 10 minutes. Cover with a towel.
  2. In another bowl, mix ground beef, ground pork, onion, black pepper, garlic, and dill together until well combined.
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into 3-inch circles.
  4. Place a small amount of filling in the center of each circle, fold the dough over, and pinch the edges to seal tightly.
  5. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Drop pelmeni in batches and cook until they rise to the surface, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Remove with a slotted spoon and serve hot with sour cream or dill.

Notes

  • You can freeze uncooked pelmeni to cook later.
  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of meats or add spices according to your taste.
